In this photo made in January, shows at least four avalanches of a mixture of dust and ice falling from a steep cliff and sitting on the slope. The resulting cascade avalanche reached more than 590 feet in width (about 180 metres).
Dislodging avalanches recorded spacecraft NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
According to NASA engineers, the uniqueness of the data is that for the first time in the Red Planet recorded dynamic natural phenomenon. Until now, scientists saw only static Mars.
"We conducted surveillance associated with changing seasons on Mars and the impact of this change in the levels of carbon dioxide in the polar regions of the world, so the discovery of an avalanche gathering was totally unexpected for us" - said deputy curator of the mission observing Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Candyce Hansen, "Newsru.com" passes.
The researchers suggest that similar avalanches may be associated with the change of times as the season: on Mars, as well as on Earth, it is spring. It is likely that similar avalanche had been caused by melting ice and softening of rocks on Mars.
Note scientists still argue: whether there is water on Mars and whether life is possible on the planet. According promulgated in February conclusions NASA scientists, there is no life on Mars and could not be - the planet almost the entire history of its existence has been too salty to its form of life could exist.
But earlier studies of land obtained Mars rover Spirit, proved that the environment in the world is ideal for microbial life.
